The ending is the new beginning.
Today marks the end of an era. After 39 years being hooked on cigarette, I managed to substitute it with Nicorette. Which means I was still dependent on nicotine to manage my state even when I didn't smoke .
I was relying on Nicorette for nearly a year now. It is anytime better than smoking but it is still a dependency. I tried to shake it off a couple of times. Each time reminded me of cigarettes, so I continue with the treatment.
Not until recently I decided to substitute the equally expensive Nicorette with a regular sugar free gum. It's working great. No craving for both cigarette and Nicorette.
Therefore today I declare my victory over nicotine. A major milestone. The longest battle for me and I finally won.
It's not just about quitting. I no longer crave for it even after I tried smoking a few times recently.
Now my regular companion is the Wrigley's Extra Sugarless Gum.

Given enough time, even the sugarless gum I will let go. All those artificial sweeteners are bad for the microbes living in our gut. I need them so I can maintain a stable production of serotonin coming from my second brain; the gut.
With nicotine out of the way, I can now focus on battling sugar and starch, the Final Frontier.
